What will you actually be doing on it?

If it's going to be mostly web browsing/Facebook/Twitter/Skype/Email etc. with the ability to do some constructive things like write a letter or make a spreadsheet, I'd steer you in the direction of a Surface 2 or Lumia 2520 as they both come with Office 2013 Home (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote).

Lumia 2520:

Go for an iPad 3, you get the retina screen, will run the latest software, plenty fast enough, can get then £300 new or no doubt £200 second hand.

If you have £400 to spend IMO go for the iPad Air (i.e. the latest one) as its very nice to use. Latest spec so will be quick for many years to come and will also come with warranty.

I hate to be that guy but how can you read a word spelled correctly then misspell it like a 4yr old a couple of lines down from that correct spelling? I normally wouldn't mind nor care but the way you've done that is just ridiculous

I hate to be that guy, but how can you call someone out on their spelling, using 46 words over two sentences, without using any commas and omitting the full stop at the end of your second sentence?

That's not what I'm doing at all. You have just committed a "straw man fallacy":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

I was merely pointing out that if you're going to criticise someone's spelling and/or grammar, you should make sure that you're squeaky clean yourself. "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones," if you will.

That doesn't answer his question at all. He's looking for help on an I pad.

Not really. Do you need me to explain what a straw man logical fallacy is, and why your statement doesn't make any sense, or did you just want to use the phrase "straw man phallus" for comic effect?

Whilst I suspect you are being facetious, the "initial" question to which I was referring was the one immediately preceding Alan's expression of annoyance at Twiggy's spelling. I apologise if the ambiguity caused you to become angry and confused.

In your continuous attempts at utilising the English language for shits and giggles you appear to have misread my attempt at furthering the 'ribbing' based on Twiggy's basic grasp of spelling.

As you were.
