ideally looking for somethin BIG! resolution and stuff isnt really the main priority we just want a decent pic, decent brand and 42+ we only ever watch dvd's and tv on it really.
can anyone find anythin better?

Worth noting that both TV's with scale HD material unfortunately (have a resolution 1024x768) as they follow the CEA rules of 'Anything equal or above 720 vertical lines is HD' when actually HD broadcasts/material follow ATSC rules which use resolutions 1280x720 for 720 i/p and 1920x1080 for 1080 i/p (@ various frame rates).

Get yourself down to a Richer Sounds, have a look at it and get them to run some HD material through it. On smaller sets it isn't really noticeable but it can start to look ropey on 40"/42" etc.
Saying that, it's well priced at £300.

Is it ever going to be really noticeable with sd stuff? And will bluray still look better than DVD?

I think the picture quallity is excellent for the price, SKY HD through it is good, Blue Rays through it are good, its a 600Hz Plasma, Go to Richer Sounds and see for yourself, at that price you will be amazed!

just rang richer sounds to go and get that, its an ex service model with no stand so would have to be wall mounted but they told me a few people have been to look and not bought it because theyre in bad condition

Btw, the F1 isn't broadcasted in HD (Bernie is too tight to pay for it, although hopefully next year we might see HD) rather it's scaled SD feed

Yeah, I was going to say that any Richer Sounds item which is 'last few' and 'only available to instore customers' are either ex-display or ex-repair.
£450 isn't bad. I just bought a 37" 1080p LG from Curry's. They priced match to Richer Sounds so got it for £380.

the f1 looked better on bbc1hd than normal. upscaled?
tried to haggle but couldnt get fuck all out of them, all theyd do was price match

Shame about the haggle, guessing you tried the "throw in a free HDMI/scart cable?"?
Scaling is basically taking a video (in this case) source and either making it bigger (upscaled) or smaller (downscale) - like grabbing a photo, opening it in photoshop and then resizing it. Obviously downscaling is a lot easier than upscaling as you throw video information/pixels away rather than try and predict information/pixels in upscaling.
But the short of it is the HD feed they ran on BBC HD wasn't taken from a HD source as FOM (Bernie's company, they provide the trackside footage, aerial shots etc Everything with Jake/DC/EJ is the BBC with their own cameras) don't provide a HD feed to the broadcasters only a Standard Def feed. So what you saw was the SD feed upscaled for HiDef, so in technically not true HD. Still looked ok (other factors come into play like compression/encoding of the feeds for BBC 1 and BBC HD) but it's light and day if you compared it against proper HD material.
Bernie/FOM apparently will release a HD feed (i've seen onboard car test footage and it actually looks extremely impressive, it makes the today's HD feed look pants) to broadcasters next year. Well that's what they've hinted (recently) anyways, whether or not it'll happen is another story as it's been in the pipeline for years.
