if I got a creative sound card for my pc with an optical input would it work that way?

At a guess, that should work, you'll need your pc turned on all the time when you use it though.

Hasn't the sub/amp on those speakers got any inputs?

Ive got a £20 Bush 5.1 DVD speaker system, just plug in the right and left xbox outputs (red and white) in the R / L on the amp and then I put it in 3D stereo and got 5.1, might not be true 5.1 but works for me

Dolby pro logic 2 i think that is. Or you could get PL2 from red and white

but im running hdmit so I dont have all those ghey red and white cables
