Not sure what this can be, did it awhile ago and i changed my thermo and it stopped for about 3months but now my engine is battered..
overheats in under 5minutes of driving and red line overheating, tappets going like crazy but oils in, id say headgasket has gone but none of the tell tale signs, now i dont want to get my gasket done if it isnt as it cost a bomb since i cant do it myself, anyone any idea what would be causing this also my car is now struggling to get past 70 which leads me to believe engine has conked its got 117k miles on it so i wouldnt be surprised..
second question, if it is engine how hard is a conversion straight swap 14xe for a 16xe?

id check the system for blockages first mate by emptying the coolant out and blasting water through with a hose pipe then refilling and getting rid of air lock.then see what happens.could also be the water pump.However saying that it wont go past 70 could be a h/g prob causing lack of compression.

had a compression test today went onto red zone so guys said its my headgasket, now i can get headgasket kit and get it skimmed, guy said id need to pay him for 10hours labour so was like wtf il do it myself, got a mate who's a mechanic how long you recon it would take to change?

 10 hours for a head gasket........flol.
It won't take you anywhere near that amount of time.
