Just a bought a new amp. Wired it all up, switched my headunit on then i could hear a high pitched whine coming from the speakers. The amp started to get hot and then started to smoke! Took the amp back and got another but still i've got the same problem and its also blowing the fuse on the amp. Any suggestions? Dodgey earth/power wire?
Edit: It smokes as soon as i connect power + earth.

Joe... this usually occurs when the voice coil goes on the subwoofer. Some amps are more sensitive to a shorted coil then others.
Try plugging the amp in without any speaker wires.

The amp is a two channel FLI (100w RMSx2). It's running Rainbow component speakers not a sub. Richie, i've tried it without any speaker wires. I've just connected power and earth and it just smokes like a bitch!

Found out that is in fact the amps at fault. Shitty FLI. Took it back to halfords the second time and asked them to test it out. Filled the whole store with smoke . Got a new amp now and it's working fine. Got a problem with interferance though. Can hear the engine rev through the speakers, very annoying. Also when i turn the car off i get a thump from the sub and some noise from the speakers power lead is down one side of the car and the RCAs are down the other.
