hey guys
got a quote today for my birds corsa 1.0l 3 cylinder 1997
for head gasket at 575 EXCLUDING VAT

sounds *ucking ridiclious!
wat r ur thoughts?

do it yourself mate if you have experience in that area. just buy the items required and its free labour.

if you can't. i'd say buy another 1.0 engine, would probably cost about 150 quid or not even that.

the 575 was all inclisive. got other quotes, seem around the same etc.
if i did a flush and new oil, how long will it last? no ones actualy looked at it, but by the symptoms-low on water, using loads etc and white stuff as oil. if i get a compressio test will it pinpoint that it is definately the head gasket? just wanna get rid of it anyway...really

migth need a lot of work to the block thoug, thats what the quote migth be so high, was cheaper for me to get a new engine, well 25 more that you and that was for a x14xe

need special tools on chain engines - to time the engine up

replace engine is cheapish option

thanks guys for your help. my mates mate is a mechanic and going to do for me for cheaper-dont know price yet, but finding out soon.

he reckons the labour will be around 6 hours as its a 3 cylinder? sound right?

having not worked on a 3 cylinder i dont know tbh but 6 hours does seem slightly steep

to get it done at Vsport we would charge £300 plus Vat. 5-6 hours is about right if you count in the time it takes to skim the head etc

can't skim those heads, if you do the timing case my not line up with threads in the head due to skimming
