Looking at the rusty state of my sump pan nuts and bolts, should I let a garage replace the sump pan for me? I've heard that it's a straightforward job -but I've heard that before.

TIA,

Phil.

unbolt the lower exhaust from the manifold, or the whole manifold if you fitted aftermarket one & drop the exhaust.

remove the fly/clutch access plate from the gearbox (it blocks sump removal)

remove sump bolts & pull off

make sure you drain the oil first tho

clear the block of the old gasket & fit new gasket & sump, clean it all up, refit cover on g'box & then exhaust

refill oil

basically, add another 10 mins on top of a normal oil change

Cheers for that.
The nuts and bolts look a bit rusty -are they likely to snap? and what torque setting should they be?

Cheers,
Phil.

do them all hand tight & then 1/4turn each further in order as said in haynes manual, will be plenty! dont overtighten tho!

they should come out ok enough, even if they are rusty! just spray some WD40 on them about an hour before you start the job!

Cheers for that

I have just been quoted £13.68 for a sump fixing set (14 bolts and 4 nuts) What a rip-off -they must be gold plated or something. Has anyone any suggestions?

TIA
Phil.

The sump and gasket I'm getting from an ebay 'shop' and the fixing kit was quoted by my local vauxhall dealership.

I might have to remove all the nuts and bolts and take them to a nut and bolt suppliers to get new ones before I fit the new sump without someone can tell me what size and length they are

Cheers,

Phil.

Why replace the sump if its not damaged though, a bit of a scrub and some hammerite will sort it out. Use some new bolts and jobs done.
