realise there is a proper tool you get but is there any other way of locking them in place to torque up the pulleys?

got the belt on but it looks like the timing is out by half a tooth. got the 2 top pulleys lining up but bottom one is just a little out. sorry cant get any pictures as camera is not working.
If i crank it round it sounds ok no big bangs or anything. will it be ok?

stick something down no 1 cylinder to check its at TDC, you might find the bottom pulley isnt perfect, its like this on my XE.

theres no need to lock them... the only one that will move is the inlet camshaft and you need to move this anyways with a spanner to get the belt onto the right tooth anyways...

to torque them up use a flat blade screw driver... put it through one of the holes in the camshaft pulley and wedge it on the top of the head...
cant believe you have done a whole engine rebuild and now your being a fairy taking it to a garage to get the timing belt done
i am messing of course

no, you use a spanner! there's a hexagon section on the cam shaft's. If your using the old bolts be careful when torqueing them up though.
