Author removing silencer on exhaust

ive heard people saying that removing a silencer will make the exhaust louder... my backbox is shown above...any chance of doing something to make it louder?

remove the manifold, its not really needed, and will cater for your noise requirements.

what about the center section..what do u do just replace it? how much do they cost?

when i had a 1.2 8v i cut my centre box out and put a straight pipe in there. made a bit of difference but not a lot.

what pipe? i have and induction kit and a backbox... it sounds ok atm..but would like it a little bit louder

go Halfords they doo a sebring straight through pipe for £50 and its stainless.

I removed the center silencer on my saxo vts using a magnex straight through section and yes it made it louder but it also lost a noticable amount of low down torque due to the reduction in back-pressure.

Worth bearing in mind.

my 2.0 has a straight through exhaust no silencer/cat etc...very raspy when revs are up, nice rumble when idling and back firing when coming off throttle though

but i think i am going to fit a middle box to quiten it down a bit...

i put a straight thru supersprint centre section on mine then one of the new design cherry bombs at the back loud but i like the tone it gives, and the burble on overrun is always welcome!

if u want a nicer note then fit a bigger engine
Indction and exhaust was more than loud enough on my old 1.4, streight through 2.25" from manifold back on the XE even with two silencers is still too loud! If you do remove the cat then make sure you fit it again before MOTs
