is it worth doing the idlers too??

Engine was new 12k ago, not been touched since...

Also doing aux. drive belt too.

Any problems I might come across?? Will be done with engine in the car...

belt dont really need be done after 12k....

always used to do belts on my 8v at 10k intervals...

probably more chance of you forgetting to tighen something up while doing it...... than it snapping

nah I always go over each bolt about 3 times checking & make a lil check list of what bolts I've undone & where there located

will this be your first DOHC? if so... i bet you wont be changing it again in 8-10k's time

yes my first ever DOHC not lookin forward to it as it is

Gona do it all over 2 days, oil flush/change, coolant flush/change, timing belt, aux belt...

SBD metal rollers are only a few quid more than standard ones!

might as well change the belt, tensioner, and rollers while ur there tho.

belt changes are a piece of piss, dont be worried bout it just get the spanners out.

as long as u line up the marks on the cam pulleys, crank pulley and tensioner, not much else to it!


remember to give the engine a few turns over by hand, then check the alignment again tho

Only advice is to put the belt round everythign but the inlet pulley then wind on the crank off the exhaust pulley to give you as much slack in the blet to slip on the belt over the inlet side, it's a right bugger and you'll see claret no doubt.
then triple check timing,
Also when setting tension set it then wind the engine 1/2 a turn set again, and then crank it round a few times (by hand) and check again, takes a few times to sort it.

Oh and lastly remeber to take the plugs out, makes life soooo much easier.

for the auxillary drive belt you need to remove an engine mount to get it out, either that or remove the PAS pump (I assume you have PAS). Really stupid design.

do the whole lot in 1 go then its pice of mind also if you use a vaux belt it has a gaurauntee no matter who fitted it? id check that but its what i thought they said to me
