C16XE has more power and torque tha than the X16XE

109bhp over 106bhp
110lb/ft over 105lb/ft @ about 500rpm lower on C16XE.

These engines are essentialy the same, apart from the 'X' means the emissions have to be cleaner. to achieve this the X16XE have Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Secondary air injection.

C16XE is a better engine performance wise, but still very similar to look at apart from stupid air injection pump behind crash bar like steve said

Both engines are stupid. Ditch it in favour of a 2.0.

Cams and exhaust are the same between X and C 16XE's, manifolds should come with a provision for the EGR crap on the X and a blanking plate for the C.

cams and exhausts are different! c16xe had a longer duration and higher lift than the x16xe.
personally i wuoldnt bother with cams in these engines until you have throttle bodies. i looked into it in a big way a while back, and decided not to bother, i got 155 bhp without them in my x16xe

basicly, these engines have very small clearance beetween the valves and pistons. to get the cams set up perfectly, u will have to use vernier pulleys and spend loads on setting up. and for a relitavely small gain (3-4 bhp). to get the clearance you need for larger gains, you will have to pocket the pistons to allow a larger lift. check out this link:

you cna use 264 on standard pistons though, which is enough if you want a steady tickover etc and not to lumpy at low rpm

As standard, but both Kent and Piper list the same cams for both C and X.

the c16xe has slightely bigger exhaust valves and a slightly better exhaust cam...... also it has an air flow meter and no egr..... on the road you will be hard pushed to find any difference between the engines. even modded

i agree with this. ive had both, no diofference really, exept x16xe are a lot newer than the c16xe. more low mileage ones about. neartly everyone i know whose had a c16xe has had trouble with piston rings and head gasket

main big problem iver seen with the c16xe is ive seen about 3-4 engines with big holes in the block as its thrown a con rod out the side... for some strange reason the c16xe's con-rod bolts are hex-headed, whereas the x16xe useds torx type bolts, maybe that was a knwon problem to vauxhall and they changed them??? valves are listed the same for c16xe/x16xe/x16xel/x14xe... c16xe has diffarent downpipe/catalyst, larger inlet ports, no egr/Ais, it has a air flow meter rather than map sensor, and compression ratio is 11:1 rather than 10.5:1 on the x16's. rev limit on c16xe is 6800rpm, whereas the x's are 6500 standard... the cams are generally the same in all engines, most have matching part numbers on inlet & exhaust cams, but some have the milder inlet cam, ive seen c16xe/x14xe/x16xel all with the same matching inlet/exhaust cams.....

C16XE and X16XE share the same rev limit of 6750rpm. power and torque for C16XE is 500rpm lower at 5500 / 3500rpm respectively compared to the X16XE.

i've never seen any x14xe/x16xe/x16xel rev past 6500rpm seen quite a few on the limiter... all c16xe's ive driven go to 6800rpm. there is another big diffarence between the engines, just cant think what at this moment lol... if i remember i'll post up..
