i just put a new egr valve on my car and played around with the acceleration cable etc. but i don't think this problem is caused by me playing around with the cable. anyway, now when i start the engine, the car rattles loudly and like its gonna stall before it realises and goes to the normal idling speed. also, if the engine ain't been used for a while, the rattling will go on for ages till car is warmed up. it does sound rough. anyone offer help???? P.S its hard brand new spark plugs in there.

Valves sticking? Did or do you thrash the car before you leave it over night? My nova used to ratlle when cold, when i was ripping it around town.

is the knocking bottom or top end? If top it'll prob just be the lifters/tappets/followers

its only knocking for a few seconds when i start the engine. then its ok. but when engine hasn't been used for a while, its there for a longer period.

just sounds like hydaulic lifters filing with oil....
x14/16xe engine?
