how will it do this? All they'll do is move out when they should move in, and move in when they should move out.

Correct all it does is make the cone move the opposite way. The main purpose of swapping the terminal wires is for when you invert the subs ie when you have the baskets on the outside of the box.

Yeah corsa-sxi your talking out your batty! I wish people who commented on stuff actually KNEW what they were on about instead of spurting out shite that they have heard elsewhere...

Switching the + & - on speakers does no damage at all, it will however run the speaker out of phase if the others have the pos and neg the other way around. For example if you have a pair of 6 x 9's on the shelf and you switched pos and neg on BOTH left and right speaker their would be no difference to JUST the 6x9's as before. If you then switch the pos and neg on just one of the 6x9's then they would be running out of phase, this USUALLY has a very bad effect of cancelling some of the sound out. As corb said one speaker will push outwards as the other pulls inwards, thus cancellation of the sound. If a pair of speakers usually sound 'airy' as though the sound is coming from everwhere around you and is lacking in bass when your ears are exactly half way between each speaker then they are usually out of phase with each other. If the sound is clear and can be defined as comming from left speaker and right speaker (i.e can be located with the ear) then they are usually in phase. Sorry for the essay, bigup Corb
