the cars a 1.4 16v. When you first start it, the engine is hunting between 750 and 1200 rpm, this settles down after a while. but then when driving it steady, it hesitates and almost feels like a mis fire. i've done plugs and leads, but still no joy. any help would be appreciated

simply disconnect the battery for an hour so all the memory is lost from the ecu then after that time connect it up, start then engine.....but dont rev and let it idle for a minute or two hopefull this should sort it out, then all you gotta do is reset your clock and tune in your radio again and your away!

it should idle about 800 rpm there are a couple of other hings you could do like cleaning the air intake and the throttle body cos you may have a slight blockage.

Is your engine management light on by anychance?

Mine was on and the engine was lumpy idling, so i a mate pluged the computer thing in to see what the problem was, and eneded up being the map reading sensor. One end had come off, put it back on and all was fine and dandy :-d

u got ur plugs on the right torque settings? sounds like plugs mine was doing the small hesitating, misfiring and sometimes decided not to accelarate (almost killed me once pulling out of a junction)

found out the guy who serviced my car changed my plugs but literally i could undo them with my fingers lol

Idol control valve
Throttal Positional Sensor
Inlet manifold
Inlet manifold gasket
Map reader
Air mass meter
ECU
1 of the wiring looms
lose connection from 1 of the wires connecting the sensors to the ecu
spark plugs and leads

its got an induction kit on, but thats been there for 2 years with no bother. i've done all the obvious... plugs, leads, oil change. i've had a similar problem before and that was an air leak which i sorted. but can't find one this time. i don't really want to go spending huge amounts of money sorting it out. i'm selling it in the next couple of weeks. The engine management light's not on.
