i have a phoenix gold amp, XS6400, and i think its internally damaged, i rang sextons and aparently it sounds like the internal voltage protection unit is gone, and they'll charge me 140 to get it fixed. dont suppose anyone else would have a good suggestion? i know its the amp at fault cos ive swapped it for a new amp and it works fine.
It keeps blowing the 2 x 30A fuses that are built into the side of the amp.

Try and contact Pheonix Gold U.K direct and have a chat with them, dealers tend to bump the price up for being 'middle men'. I have an Alpine 7998R headunit which cost me 650. It broke down during its warranty period and sent in back to Alpine, through my local dealership and was assured that their would be no cost cos it was under warranty.
I recieved it back two weeks later along with a bill for 150!! They had also sent back a small sample flake of paint which had obviousley flaked off of the back of my center console after i'd colour coded it and fitted it and said that was to blame!!
I dont think so but what could i do, i didnt have a leg to stand on so i said call it a tonne and that will do.

I also have an amp which has a blown transistor in it, a 50p component which would be EASY to fix but as im not electrical minded i need to have it done by someone who know's what they are doing. Ive scoured the WHOLE of Nottinghamshire looking for a 'back street' electrician who will fix it and no joy, looks like only Alpine will fix it but for what it will cost it aint justifieable. Anyway enuff of my jibbering, get in touch with Pheonix OR the importers over here and see what they have to say?

May be a bit of a shot in the dark... but why don't you try your local University !!

Find out who the electronic professor is and ask them to fix it as a project for one of his classes... done a similar thing with my tv a few years ago... still works a treat. and it didn't cost me a penny !!

yes an amp is not like a tv but electronic are all the same more or less...
