Similar to another thread I posted a while back about wanting something faster/second car.

Insurance will still keep bumming me until I turn 21 so have decided not to bother getting a different car for a while and have instead started looking more into depth at engine conversions for my B.

What costs am I looking at to put in a Saab B204 engine along with the conversion parts? On Facebook on the SaabWorx group page people are saying around £500 for a donor car etc. but I'm a bit skeptical.

Also wondering what timeframe and cost am I also looking at for someone to do it for me?

technically this is true, no matter how morally wrong and women, children and baby kittens will die because of your actions though

I'm not saying he shouldn't declare it, I would as I'd be paranoid about being pulled over.

I was just replying to lvl's comment.

Plus you'd be uninsured if you had an accident.

Saying that, oJNAo hasn't mentioned anything about not declaring the engine modification other than a faster car would kill him on insurance - not that a B204 wouldn't either but still

I'm not condoning undeclared engine conversions

But a few of the car's I fancied as an upgrade are stupidly high on insurance considering they're not exactly sports cars or boy racers dream

E.g. Audi A3 1.8T mk1 with 2 years ncb was 2 grand on insurance up front, compared to my 1.4 8v Corsa with all declared mods and 1 years ncb being £700

Isn't the B207 too tall for a B? Looks like they're more common amongst C's and VX220's

Reason I'm asking about the B204 as they can be sourced much cheaper than C20XE/LET and most of the XE's I've seen for sale look ragged/overpriced

I'm not necessarily asking what's the cheapest conversion, I just don't see the point in splashing out a grand (loose figure) on a 20 year old engine when a similar powered engine can be bought for cheaper which can also be pushed to higher figures.

They are no more reliable at power - why do you think lets still hold a premium? Because they are far better

Looks like the C20XE is the best choice for me then, guy who did my MOT has two in his possession so I'll see what he says regarding price and who could fit it

Just buy a Clio 172/182.

Probably cost about as much as the conversion for your car, will handle better, be far better equipped, far nice to drive, look nicer and probably be cheaper to insure than a converted Corsa.
