Ben - Couldn't agree more, could have had the DS remapped for more POWAAAA but didn't because of warranty, half the reason you buy a new car tbh!

I was referring to the current trend for people to dismiss any tuners map unless it is carried out live/RR which obviously is the "better" way to go in terms of mapping, however a turbo hatchback with an exhaust filter and chip is not going to be that heinous, especially when the likes of EDS etc spends lots on R&D for their Maps.

Just usual band wagon etc

the problem is there is alot on garages/tuners popping up, the big names are obviously the safer route but there is alot of people that will go for the biggest clams and or cheapest prices, which could be maps produced by amateurs that does your engine no favours

Whilst what you are saying is correct, thats the same for getting your car live mapped or rolling roaded, its only as good as what the operator is able to provide. My point was the new Internet thing is to automatically dismiss the likes of EDS/Dreamscience etc because they are "Generic" and all the cool kids tag along and repeat said nonsense.

My brother got his Golf 20vt done via a random on eBay. £30 for the map and he bought the scan tool thing for extracting the map from his ecu and uploading the new map. Done some live data checks with an elm327 and torque app and everything matches up to that of a £300 map from a reputable tuner. Had it on for a while now and hasn't blown up.

Yes, it is possible to do it cheap, but is it worth the risk for the sake of £200 to see if the engine blows up or not
