yeah, top gear said the clio and some other hot hatch had more power but the fiesta was better due to the steering feel and handling.

"In fact, in all other areas the Fiesta shows the Corsa the way. Its chassis is much better able to contain vertical and lateral motions on both smooth and uneven roads, making the ST the much more composed of the two. While the Corsa skips and bobs along challenging stretches of blacktop, the Fiesta is level and unflustered. That makes it not only faster along a road, but more enjoyable, too.

Its steering is also more intuitive and feelsome than the Corsa’s, which can be remote when it really matters. The Corsa also has a slightly woolly gearchange – at time you wonder if you missed the gear entirely – which serves to highlight just how pleasant the Fiesta’s mechanical, direct throw really is.

The Fiesta’s engine is also more satisfying with a sharper, freer revving top end. The Corsa’s powerplant can feel a little unrefined and lumpy in its delivery by comparison."

For the road yes, for people who are bothered about harsh ride etc. For purists handling I think a performance packed vxr will have the edge. Plus the press bum fords regardless.

Anyway I'm collecting the car Monday now. As it's here even earlier than I thought decided to just have it on a 15 plate. Don't like the idea of it sat around at the dealers for a month. Probably use it for test drives or a salesman will take it home

Steve, go and test drive a Fiesta st. The ride is extremely firm, bordering on harder than my Z4.

Having just done a Scotland road trip, I think i've experienced enough to say it's not a comfortable ride by any means. It's not set up for long soothing journeys.

I reckon Steves dad wouldn't allow him to have a Ford, he is too upper middle class for a ford.

165 if you want warranty, lacking a bunch of torque too,

and not cheap to have done http://www.mountune.com/index.php/services/performance-upgrades/fiesta/fiesta-1-0t-2013

That is strange that Mountune only give 165bhp for the 140 with all of those bits and also the same power for the 125, the difference between the 2 is the 125 has a more restrictive downpipe.

Superchips offer 165 plug and play for under £400

Yeah...my mate chucked a generic remap on his fiesta st and fucked the engine wouldn't go down that route on a brand new car.

Stick with mountune and have no worries. The power delivery isn't as aggressive though.

You could call Mountune a 'generic map'. I bet the map will be not that different between Superchips and Mountune.

The Mountune one may well be a generic map, but when things go wrong you can give it back to Ford and let them pay to fix it.

Try getting that if they find out you had a superchips map on.

A 'generic map' is one that is just loaded on to a car, like most maps are. You don't have one map that suits all different types of cars like some people. If it is a standard car then a generic map is fine.

Why is everyone so bothered about warranty now? People have been mapping new cars since mapping began. Most fast VW, Audi, Seat and Skodas are mapped before the warranty ends.

If you get superchips with the handheld device you could always take it back off should you blow it up, but a decent map shouldn't cause an engine to die.

I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying if for some reason your engine blows up (we had 90 odd engines sent out which chucked conrods out the side of the block) and you have an aftermarket engine remap on it, you can kiss goodbye to any warranty repairs if they find out.

I don't know about you, but I don't have a few grand to chuck at a brand new car for a new engine.
