My mrs often walks (almost power walking)

She lost about 2 stone last year, alongside cutting out a few calories.

Obviously you need to partake in more walking to achieve the levels of cycling/running.

Walking 10k uses the same amount of calories as running 10k.

Nah, your app is wrong, you expend the same energy as you move the same weight/mass the same distance. The only difference is time taken to do so.

Walking is fantastic to be honest. 100 per cent will help lose some body fat and tone up a bit, especially the legs obviously.

Serious, if you run for 20 minutes you will burn more energy than walking 20 minutes because you will obviously have carried you weight/mass a further distance running.

But, if you run 10k you will use the same calories as walking 10k as you have moved the same weight/mass the same distance the only difference is it was done in less time.

Wrong, it's down to the colour of your underpants.

I don't think you can accurately calculate the calories burned. It's just a guess.

Intensity always beats duration. More benefits from a 20 minute blast on a rower/bike compared to an hour walking.

Walking is only exercise for fat people imo

i often walk up the hills and fells round here. any exercise is good for you. fat people who are walking are maybe just beginning to get healthy. shouldn't judge. i was very fat once, id not laugh at people wanting to get healthier and fitter. i know how hard it was.

Great article that and some really interesting info, and I quote...

Walking is a different kind of animal. Increases in walking speed dramatically raise calorie burn per mile as well as per minute. Indeed, at about 12:30 per mile, walking hits a point where it burns about the same calories/mile as running. Walk faster than 12:30 and you will burn more calories/mile than running at 10.00 pace.

....ironically it just proves that anyone can go for a ratch on google etc and find someone or something to back up there argument. Obviously I've quoted the part that backs me up. But you get the idea. I could start chuntering on about if you walk slow enough you could burn even more calories than running. But I won't.

But hey A1EX right back at you in you black underpants...

Suppose walking can be more beneficial than other things when most people can't even run a mile or do anything else to a half decent standard
