Just rewatched the race again and that safety car really did for the Merc's. 10.2 second gap to Vettel once Lewis had cleared the traffic, which was near enough the same amount it was at the end, which would've meant without it, it would've been pretty much neck and neck. That said, i think Ferrari might have won it anyway, given the straightline pace they had but it would've been close.
The good thing is, even if when we get to a race where tyres are less marginal, Ferrari should be close. Even as a Lewis fan thats excellent news. Horner's face after that race must've been a picture and it answers my question of why Ferrari have always dismissed equalisation this season, they knew they were closer.

He probably hates him for all the reasons the British Media tell you that you should hate him. I always find its those who only take a passing interest in F1 that hate him the most too, funny that. All their opinions about the drivers directly reflect what the media tell them.

Nothing against him, he is getting better now he has found his own voice. I just find him to be a bit fake with his American accent, and childish tantrums when it doesn't go his way, and everyone on here seems to bum him and using the quali to describe qualifying grinds my gears too.
I should probably ask why people hate Button.

I'm probably guilty of mocking him a bit (mocking a guy that drives an F1 car for a living, has millions in the bank and a stunning Mrs)  but I don't hate him. I think he handled himself really well towards the end of last year with the contract nonsense and the race he won in Canada was one of my all time favourites, I just don't think he's in the same league as Hamilton and Alonso and has arguably had a longer career in F1 than his talent deserves.

I dont hate Button at all. Posted several times last season how he deserved a drive this season, something i didnt think I' d say at the start of the year but he proved me wrong. My only issue with Button was when people tried to say he was Lewis' equal. So more to do with deluded folk than Button himself.
I find his driving pretty boring but i dont hate him for it. He seems like an ok bloke and raises a smile sometimes. I'd have a pint with him.
Always seem to find myself defending Lewis on here but its really only because people seem to hold him to higher standards than anyone else on the grid, which i find bizarre. If people slated Alonso, Button, Kimi, Vettel, Nico every time they came into an interview after losing with a downbeat attitude, or complained about something on the radio i could accept their criticism of Lewis but they dont. Its odd.
Even remember Marc positing about not liking the fact his dad was always about on race days but seemed to find no issue with Jenson having his dad there

Look at what the rags have been writing about yesterdays race

"The Sun’s Ben Hunt declaring that ‘Lewis Hamilton went radio gaga at his Mercedes team’."
"In the Daily Mail, McEvoy added Hamilton was ‘involved in a series of curt radio exchanges’ with ‘his obviously jittery engineers’ as he questioned Mercedes’ strategy decisions."
This is a major reason as to why people hate Lewis. People with a passing interest in the sport will read these reports and conclude that Lewis went off his nut with a mental rant when the truth is blatantly different.
No surprise that the writers of these quotes are from The Sun and The Daily Mail, two of the countries more "conservative" newspapers. I wonder why they might take issue with Lewis...

Got the sun today. Back page is full of hamilton hate
I'd be pissed off if he wasn't angry at coming 2nd. He doesn't race for points, he races to win.
One of the radio comments came about after Mercedes fucked up and transmitted a comment about maybe pitting lewis again after he said they're on the wrong tyres for the last stint.

I have always liked vettel and alonso
I don't like Hamilton but appreciate he is a good driver but not a complete driver , but very few are

What i dont accept is when people give bullshit reasons as to why they dislike someone. If you dont like someone, fine, but dont just make shit up to justify why. Its like me saying i dont like Alonso because hes ginger.

The usual ones for Lewis are "moany" "sulky" "arrogant" "childish", and the examples they give to support these views are ones literally every driver on the grid is guilty of [maybe with the exception of Danny Ric, but this season should test him]. Alonso moans and complains, Button moans and complains, Vettel moans and complains, Kimi doesnt do anything but yet not a word is uttered when they do it. Why?
As i say, people hold Lewis up to higher standards than everyone else for some bizarre reason and the British press are as guilty as anyone for this. Whenever i see people criticising him for something they wouldnt criticise any other driver for, I'll always pick them up on it.
Always find it funny how quick people are to pick up one anything he says in a negative tone, like on the radio in Malaysia [which wasnt even negative] yet never mention how gracious he was in defeat on the podium or in the post race interviews.
Dont want everyone to love Hamilton, but at least be fair and consistent with your criticism.

If anything I would say Hamilton has been very gracious in defeat.
After quail he did not blame Rosberg for screwing up his lap when he blatantly did.
After the race he said Ferrari were the better team and they need to try harder when he knows that if they hadn't of screwed up the strategy them he would have won. He knew he did all he could given the tools he had.
I think Hamilton would have won had the strategy been OK. He was 10 seconds down on Vettel once he got out of all the traffic from the early tyre change, he tried to make the most of the tyres instead of the engine. If they had done a 3 stop but later then he would have made much more time due to more optimal tyres AND wouldn't have to make up a 10 second extra gap due to bunched traffic
Some people after the race were saying how it proves how good Vettel is but other than Rosberg he didn't have to overtake anyone and the overtake was easy due to DRS. The car was obviously very good shown by the fact Kimi went from last by a long way to 4th.

It's a one off result imo. Yes Ferrari have got closer to Merc, but in reality, on a normal track with normal temps (not high enough to fry and egg) they'll be behind again.
Merc have always been crap on tyres for as long as I can remember.

Agree 100%, as much as I want Lewis to win again it'll mean so much more if he is made to work for it. I still think there are races where Merc are going to be miles in front though.

Yep, i enjoyed last season as it was something you dont see too often in F1. Two team mates battling it out for the title in identical cars. Due to Lewis' bad luck early doors and midseason, it made for a hell of a tense season, but now we've had that and with Rosberg starting to look and sound like a beaten man, i really want another team to step up to the plate, the fact its Ferrari is even better.
That said, i expect Merc to still comfortably take the WCC and WDC, but if Seb and Kimi can mix it up a bit every now and then, im all for that. I just hope they dont do it in Spain, im desperate to see Lewis win
