They do it to everyone; quite common for them to creep into other European airspace (they flew into Dutch and Danish airspace the other day), US usually sees them peeing around saint lawrence island off Alaska and there's even stories of the TU-95 'buzzing' the towers of US aircraft carriers - it's just an attempt at a show of force.

Tbh i can see it being a bit dull for pilots, having their tea break interrupted to go escort a cold war piece of junk out of their airspace

Yeah, getting to fly jets must start to get boring to some of these pilots.

It's not like it'd be a gentle pootle to the cost and back. It's gonna be in the jet and intercept them ASAP. I bet the pilots love a good excuse to take a Typhoon and give it hell.

So, with tensions rising, do we still think there's no chance of any form of military intervention?

America at its best - American press asking questions to the American government person and talking about the sanctions. This question

Can you confirm that the restrictions are not going to prevent the purchase of AK47 weaponry due to the reactions on the factory

seriously. All this is going on and your concern is if you can buy a bloody AK47. No wonder they have so many gun problems

Fairly shocking news given that there's currently no apparent link between that situation and either the airline or either of the countries on the route.

Notwithstanding the fact that MA have had some bad luck recently, shooting down a passenger plane just because it flew overhead and you're wanting a barney is very, very big news.

The fact its fairly difficult should narrow it down, last known location is 34000 feet.

I couldn't believe it when I found out. Genuinely stunned.

"There were 154 Dutch passengers on board the plane, says Huib Gorter from Malaysian Airlines. Also 27 Australians, 23 Malaysians, 11 from Indonesia, six from the UK, four Germans, four Belgians, three from the Philippines and one Canadian. More nationalities have yet to be counted."

The Ukrainian government are denying involvement, and the pro-Russian separatists claim they don't have the equipment to take a plane down at that altitude, however it is claimed they deleted a tweet that said that they did have the weapons capable of such an attack.

Very odd one. Either way this is a huge huge deal and shit is likely to hit the fan. The international backlash could be huge.

Can't even begin to imagine what it would be like on that plane coming down knowing that was it. And for the relatives who must be confused out of their minds at how something so incomprehensible has occurred.

There are a couple of scenarios I've been thinking this could be

1. Pure accident in a coincidentally sketchy airspace, Malaysian Airlines having an awful year.
2. Shot down by seperatists thinking it was something military. let's not forget they've been trying and trying to bring aircraft out of the air since it all started, including 3 hits on aircraft in the past week.
3. Rebels not giving a fuck and brought it down because they could.
4. Russians brought it down for god knows what reason, maybe to try and pin it on the Ukrainians to give them grounds for an invasion.

2 and 3 are based on the assumption that the Russians are supplying them with larger weaponry. The other thing to come back to is the identity of the seperatists themselves, has it been confirmed that they aren't actually just Russian troops?

Shocking

Plane wasn't in restricted airspace at 33.000ft, however airlines had been warned about passing over the region

why would Ukraine shoot it down? I think its rebels mistaken it for military aircraft, but how the fook do they get hold of a BUK mobile anti air? its massive, the missiles at like 20ft with a 70kg warhead on

backlash from this will be massive

Russia have been supplying them with weapons so it's perfectly feasible they could have that equipment. Audio has also come out of rebels communicating they had shot down a military aircraft in the region at the same sort of time. However no military aircraft has been shot down.
