So on my xe I am currently running the multirib alternator and every tim i turn left at speed the alternator pulley rubs on the chassis leg. And i get a nasty rotational grinding sound. I was wondering how other people sorted this? Would stiffer engine mounts stop the engine moving enough to let this happen?

I do have a spare v belt alt and crank pulley but the condition is unknown whereas the multi rib alt is perfect condition.

Cheers.

are you using a spacer plate on the back gearbox mount? swap to single vee pulley, gives loads of clearance and unless you need massive power from your alternator the single vee belt will be more than upto the job.

I have a single v belt one on mine and have loads of chassis clearance but extremely close to the timing belt cover and had to elongate the hole on the mount to get clearance.

Post pictures of your mounts and I'm sure many people will tell you if you have the correct ones! Personally, I'd fit the single v pulley set up and then fit competition engine mounts... Coz race car

I just put PU18 and filled in the rubber mounts along with bolts and nuts. It's solid and doesn't move. Also have a single V on mine and abou 1CM clearance from the leg.

Type 2 mounts, no idea why you have that little clearance,
Any idea of the thickness of the spacer you used? That's probably your issue

Ah how can u tell they are type 2? How do you know what type it should have? It was a MTEC spacer as a guess about 10-15mm wide

Cheers

Spacer sounds about right as well,
Can tell its type 2, because your conversion mount is three pieces, as in chassis mount, the rubber mount, block mount,
Type one you just use a block mount and the standard corsa rubber.

Tiger seal is your friend in this situation!!! Fill all 3 rubber mounts with it, will cost around £15.. Or buy competition mounts that do the same thing but miles better! Rally design, compbrake, eBay I think has them. Ask bigron, he has them.. Also danscorsasxi friend ash has them (can't remember his username on here!)

Protec Motorsport do the original best comp mounts,
Or take your rubber mounts to a tyre place, and get them to fill them with expoxy resin.

http://www.compbrake.com/vauxhall-cosra-engine-mounting-sytem-set-of-3.html these look like them as well.

So even though its got XE mounts the actual rubber bit is identical to a standard corsa one? So when i order some of the competition mounts i can just order as if it was for the standard 1.4 engine?

just grind some of the alternator pulley? just take the lip of the pulley that should sort it, be prob easier and wont effect the belt in any way
