According to journalist and Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott, the next Xbox console will be on the way in early November, and will be simply named ‘Xbox’. It’s also set to put a hole in your wallet, ringing up at $500 (around £325) – but there’s also a lower priced $300 (£195) model on the way too which will come with a subscription.

Trying to ban used games from working on it

Shocking, i only buy some games when they are old and not such a rip off, i buy BF3 and add-ons as soon as they come out.

But red dead redemption i'm only playing as it was dirt cheap nowadays, but they have gained from me because i downloaded extras for it from the xbox live marketplace.

If i had to pay full price for it, i wouldn't of bought it or the add-ons.

I doubt they'll stop you using pre-owned games, rather i suspect it'll be similar to what is being rumoured for the PS4 in that you'll be required to purchased your own 'license' of the game. To what extent they'll lock you down when using a pre-owned is anyone's guess though.

Seen lots of people kicking off about it being 'always on' and the CEO or whoever saying he doesn't get what the big deal is.

Bearing in mind it'll use the same kernel as Windows 8 so will benefit from the fast boot, along with capped data allowances and rising electricity bills I can see why people are moaning.

How "always on" is it then? Since the current one is only ever technically on standby when you power it off, same with most new TVs.

In terms of internet connectivity, not power ie - it's requires an internet connection to use regardless of playing multiplayer or local single player games.

If you haven't got internet access or in a rural location with a flaky connection then it could be a bit annoying not being able to use the console

they wont stop the games being preowned though, and they wont have that constant internet connection. Theyre all about sales, they know if they do that then theyve cut their purchases to under 70%. Theyre all about the money making, they dont give a shit about the games after.

i can see an issue there, im in halls now and most people just have a wired ethernet connection so when you take the xbox into the living room for a fifa or cod session theres no internet.

They said the same about the 360 and PS3 and it never happened and I doubt it will this time.

How so?

We're certainly on the path for consoles/games to be 'cloud' based and internet connection DRM'd up to the hills (like Sim City); whether or not it'll come in with this generation of consoles is anyone's guess though.

^^ possibly in as much as they're trying to lock down their systems and exploit the 'app stores', but as Dom says, everything is moving towards internet based, its just natural progression.

Having games tied to your account has pros and cons. Like with steam, you cannot swap purchased games with your friends, but it is handy having everything in one place.

I don't agree with the 'always online' rumours that are circulating, not that I have any consoles or plan to get one, but I feel it'll push a lot of their customers over to Sony. I think it'll be a bad move.

The license thing WILL happen. The second hand gaming industry aka trade ins has crippled the gaming industry as has piracy etc.

If they don't do anything there won't be any new games for you to moan about.
