Cheers guys, it looks odd to me now to look at pre-splitter pictures. Judging by the mounting holes in the bumper, I think they were meant to have a splitter from the factory - but I don't know of any production spec ones with a splitter.... maybe the WR1?

Doesn't every splitter look like an LCR splitter? Infact - it might well be an LCR splitter as I think they're compatible with every single car ever made

That was a Hawk wasn't it? In which case it doesn't explain the holes/mounting points found under my bumper.

Oh well, I'll do whatever I can to sleep tonight without getting to the bottom of it.

RAGE!

Had to work a little late tonight with a co-worker who normally car shares, so took him home so his usual lift could get off on time.

Stopped for a takeaway, then driving home just now felt I needed to keep 45 degrees lock on to keep out of the ditch to my left. Got into town where I live and could hear/feel the left front mudflap scraping on the road.

Got home to find front left tyre flat as a fart, no idea if I've done any damage to the wheel... I really hope not.

Unisport Rainsport2's ordered.

Could get them for either £150 each delivered and fitted by Black Circles or I could get them for £110 each delivered from Camskill.

Went with Camskill, pretty sure the dodgy looking part worn place round the corner will do the fitting for cheaper than £80...

If you have to ask, you can't afford it

Seriously though...

Most of it is OCD to be fair. My expenditure so far has been:

£250 getting it detailed - OCD
-£50 replacing headlights - OCD, I say -50 because I made profit selling the knackered lights
£30 on bulbs - OCD, none needed replacing
£200 getting it serviced (off schedule) and RR'd - OCD
£150 on changed ball joint, coolant hose and undertray repairs - Needed doing, but all DIY jobs to be honest.
£345 getting the manifold removed, snapped bolt drilled, manifold replaced and radiator replaced. - Needed doing, IMO but others beg to differ that it was OCD

Everything else I've spent has been upgrades/aesthetics such as the dials, splitter and head unit.

I've just spent £200 on some second hand (clunking) shocks and prodrive springs which I guess is half a maintenance expense and half an upgrade expense, but I should make at least £200 back when selling on my own shocks and springs after refurbishing them.

I've priced up other maintenance jobs and if I do it myself - a brake disk/pad/hose/fluid change all around will probably set me back less than £400, and servicing costs really aren't bad even at "specialists".

Oh, and as for the tyres - £110-150 per corner seems the rate for the usual "premium" brands, which is pretty cheap I think.

Well I wasn't hoping that my next few hundred ££ would be going on these, but have to say they look pretty cool now they're here

Getting them fitted tomorrow morning, not a minute too soon. Driving round in the missus' Corsa drains me of all enthusiasm for cars

Blasphemy! I'm complimenting an Evo and now you're complimenting an Impreza

Cheers though

Tyres on now, £10 a corner at my local backstreet tyre place and they kept my "good one" to sell on as a part worn.

They guessed my pressures I think as I checked last night and one was 36psi and one was 42psi Topped my rears up as they were down to high 20's and now running 33psi all around. Probably placebo but the car feels better to drive

My first delivery has arrived for my suspension restoration project:

I've got the greasegun (and grease), drill/tap set in M10 size and of course the springs and shocks still to arrive.

Buying 110 grease nipples was a little overkill, but it lets me evaluate all the different sizes once offered up against the shock body. I chose M10 initially because I figured a larger thread would be stronger, but I'll see if it seems "too big" once offered up to the shock.

I could really do with some rubber caps to fit once installed so I've just bought an assorted back of 20 from eBay. Another £3 down the drain

If this works out, I'm hoping to fit some repaired/future proofed suspension to my car, and also to have a standby set of refurbed shocks to sell on eBay/forums to make back most of (if not all of) the project costs.

Too Easy...

I got the rest of my tools for the "suspension project" yesterday including:

M10 Drill bit and tap
Grease Gun and cartridge
Spring clamps

I set about trying to load the grease gun and test it, I was very skeptical because it cost less than a tenner - and rightly so, it was terrible

It pumped grease fine right until I tried to pump it through one of my nipples, and the seals in the piston failed and grease just squirted out through the handle - right mess

I wandered into town to look around the motor-factors and they had a small selection of grease guns (including the eBay special I'd broken 10mins earlier) and after a quick chat with the guy I settled on a much bigger pump handled one (instead of the pistol grip one I got before). I grabbed a larger cartridge of Castrol Moly Grease to go with it and after a few minutes of being home I had it setup and pumping grease fine through one of my nipples.

Now all I need, are the spare shock absorbers and springs The seller seems to be living in the 90's and doesn't have a paypal account so it took me about two weeks to pay the bloke They're due on Monday though

I may open a suspension refurbishing business.

Thanks Jambo, I think the dials are definitely up there as my favorite job so far. The standard UK spec dials are horrible

Stunning day, good excuse for a quick wash and some pic whoring!

Dull weather really hides the colour of this car, it comes alive with a bit of sunshine... really can't wait for summer.

Thanks Ben, the mudflaps definately need addressing regardless of aesthetic opinion.

If there's anybody in the back, they scrape like crazy - and if there's a slight incline, they scrape too.

Scraping over speedbumps is one of those things, but dragging my ass round town with passengers isn't my idea of fun

I was going to have them all off - take photographs with the car "bare" and then trim half an inch from each one - then refit them, take more photo's and then study for a while to decide what I prefer.

As it happens, the nuts/bolts and brackets are all rotten as fuck and I'll need to get my wheels off and car on stands to access properly to get them all off... so I keep putting it off for now.

I'll be doing suspension and brakes all round soon, so car will be jacked up on stands. I'll use that opportunity to get them off.

I may consider something like the below if I decide the bare look is too... bare.
