That would be fine if it was 2006. Replacing probably the best mapping system ever with some beta maps on your 'most advanced operating system' doesn't really cut it now.
If they wanted to replace google they should have had something much better.

Yes, it looks good and stylish, but the lack of labelling and the very thin roads makes it impossible to navigate.
Apple has gone completely form over function on this one, and it's just not the right place to do that.
I don't even care about the missing/bad satellite imagery, I never use that. But the general map layout is just shit.

I'm guessing Apple talking to Bing about using their mapping system on iOS was out of the question then. Even their maps is better than this shite on iOS 6.

Other browsers aren't other browsers, they're wrappers for Safari - adding another rendering engine or Javascript engine is a massive no! Apps like WhatsApp predate iMessage by quite a long time, I'd imagine if you came along with something like that now they would reject it.

That's the stuff that will build up over time (detail and labeling).
Google maps has been around 10 years, Apple maps, 3 days.
Agreed its no excuse and I for one will use google maps when the app is released(even if it still doesn't have turn by turn and still gets me lost like it used to) but only untill Apple catch up which won't take long.

Apple shouldn't be playing catch up. Can you not see how all these things aren't Apple? The whole philosophy should be not releasing something until it's perfect (even though they don't always achieve it, until now they've at least tried).

You're right, they should have known this time would come years ago. Google were always going to rinse them when the contract expired knowing how successful iOS has become since the original iPhone.

NavFree is a good satnav app, it's just been updated and is much improved from before.
