I think they still do them, I'm sure some one priced one up a couple of years ago and it was more than that entire engine,

No benefit on the inlet side really, it was all about the exhaust manifold route etc why it made gains.

Yeah, but when they were used in the btcc, thy were a 'standard part'

Same as Volvo when they machined the head so much it would have been cheaper to cast a one off, and Audi when they cut the block off at the crank centre like and replaced it with aluminium from there down.

They would have had to say it was a production head

i had a look at my head last night to see how much work it would take to reverse it, as said would be easier to start with a new casting

Tbh it really wouldn't be hard to run a normal head with the inlet on the front, only a case of custom manifolds, cams, only problem is the ports are the wrong shape etc.
The engine doesn't care what side they are, just may not make much power on the standard port shapes lol$

I'm sure I've seen/read about some one doing just that on a big power nitrous lump, as the burnt gases are a much higher volume than the nitrous + air being sucked in, and the inlet ports were a lot bigger than the exhaust ports.

Amazing engine but what's the benefit of the head being swapped around? All I can figure out is the exhaust is shorter

The main reason it was actually done was because the engine was so low in the car, the original design required an exhaust manifold which went across the front of the car then up and over the gearbox, before going back across and through the exhaust tunnel, do it pretty much had 270deg to go through.

The reverse head meant that it just went out the back, down a bit and straightened up, so it had less than 90def to contend with.

I've got pics somewhere by can't find using my phine

I think we should stick to homemade inlet manifolds and leave this sort of thing to migweb, they will know.
