Upgrade day, have the choice of pretty much any phone I want, but looking at these two.

iphone seems easier to use but I hate apple and the fact you need itunes.

I prefer the look of the iphone itself but prefer the menus and such of the Nexus.

So any one have experience of both, I know most will be able to offer advice on the Apple (Russ fan boy)

Have a look at the S2 as well if you're looking at Android phones.

iOS is nicer and more reliable as a phone operating system than Android, so I vote iPhone.

get an iphone. you only need to use itunes now and again to put music on (but you dont have to buy music through itunes, you can use any) and once you get the hang of it its a very good way of managing the stuff on your phone

You don't even need iTunes now, except to activate the handset (though they usually do this for you in the shop or before they stick it in the post) - you can install apps and music via built-in iTunes and App Store apps on the device itself.

If you don't like buying your music through iTunes (e.g. you prefer Spotify or Amazon or whatever) you can use iTunes on your computer to copy these files over. There are programs you can get which allow you to mount the iPhone like a memory stick so you can copy files onto/off it, but it's easier to just use iTunes for music.

iPhone.

Easier to back everything up, more reliable OS, easier to use and just a nicer experience.

backups are a good one, plug the phone in at night and its backed up. if you break or lose your phone you turn it on and restore from the backup stored in the cloud without even having to plug in to a computer

Me, having access to both OS

HTC need to come up with some software for backing up their phones. Do they have any? Seems a pain in the arse to restore, which I'm going to have to do.

Saying 'Me' is just you're opinion, rather than a global fact! There's nothing (statistically) to say that iOS is more reliable than Android or Android is more reliable than iOS. I've had both and generally I had more issues with iOS, means bugger all to anyone else though.

Regarding backups, Google takes care of a lot of it (photo's and text's are you're only issue). However there are plenty of third-party apps like MyBackup and Titanium Backup that'll do the lot.
Also iTunes isn't exactly a positive, it's extremely bloated for what it does; especially on Windows.

adiohead - HTC don't need to do anything....

Back on topic, get down to a phone shop and have a play with a few different OS's and phones and decide yourself. Also read plenty of reviews rather than relying on biased forums

Tbf it'd be up to Google to implement something into Android. As said, there are plenty of apps for complete backups - Go Backup (free i believe, iirc you need to be rooted to backup app data though) is also worth checking out.
However i can't think of any Android desktop based backup software apart from Motorola's Portal, but i think that was limited to a handful of their phones.

True, but you asked for a source so I gave you a source. You didn't specify fact-based or opinion-based
