just looks bad when the site admin publicly posts a users IP address, thats all

if it wasnt bad then why not make their IP show to everyone next to their username?

Why does it look bad because its me?

I don't show all the time because I don't need everyone to know all the time, that reply was pertinent to the thread and in response to your 3 year thing.

What is the underlying accusation here, I'm lax with DP?

not u, any site admin, on any forum, posting a users IP is frowned upon... nothing to do with u personally

Yes but why?

It's not DP, it's not even particularly useful.

If it was such a great tool I would have a better time tracking dodgy trades, facts are it not actually much of a clue about anything.

We know you're on VM, we know you're in Dartford, that probably gives a range. And we know you change, so we have a few fixes in that timescale.

That data I posted wasn't even clear on times so you couldn't reliably use it.

I know there's a bit of mystique and oooh IP addresses hacker bollocks but for me it's no big deal.

DP is a big deal btw. I just put the boundaries in a different place and IP is outside of that for me.

ian

if someone has ur IP, and a fast upstream, they can keep you offline by sending constant requests to your IP. people generally don't want their IP public.

i have a problem on a few of my sites because users are saying moderators are handing out peoples IP's so they can be knocked offline. in gaming this is crucial...

you want to keep your IP private, but you posted mine publicly

if it isnt a concern then as i said why not include it under the location/registered part next to each post?

its hidden from users for a reason

WTF is that, you appear to be far from a nerd

And from that - it becomes clear that all you are is a Runescape saddo and that lots of little nerds have it in for you - no more than that. You've even got your own Urban dictionary entry

What's a fast upstream got to do with anything?

Surely a slow upstream will saturate first?

Mine is currently 87.114.138.18

Do your worst.

I don't have them in posts because people would do things like assuming because two are the same it's the same user, or assume that because they found a fix elsewhere for it that is still valid when without a date stamp it's useless.

Basically you would get people with less of a clue thinking they had a clue, which would cause more problems that it solves.

Plus I don't think it looks particularly nice, aesthetically it's not necessary. Same as I wouldn't put any other additional profile info in the postbit, just doesn't need to be there.

Not having it there is not some policy on privacy that I'm now breaking by reminding you that you were wrong about the three year thing.

the higher upstream you're attacking with, the most damage you can do

so if i buy a 10$ vps with a 100mB line and run LoIP it will hit most home connections offline

thats how he kept my 30mB/s virgin media down for literally weeks on end

Perhaps Ian could sell your IP details and give the hacked people from 2003-2007 their money back.

So when you were 14, you were hacking people on runescape and making 10K a year?

probably more but ya

i owned rvnescape.com

with the Georgia bold/italic the v looked like a u

phishing shizzle

http://www.rvnescape.com/?news/news_id=2556763&sess_id=2u8f9328hgf923ge8vh2h2c2

"omg runescape is closing... wtf... sign the petition bro!!"

login screen prompted...

started to go a bit bigger tho and assigned a unique news ID to people who helped me

so they'd spread the link/convince rich people to login

i'd login and split the 'loot'

so all i did was login a few accounts each day and make £££

hence why everyone is mad on urban dictionary lolz
