Just did a quick search and you're right. No static ip for residential customers

ive had the same IP for 3 years until i got a new modem...

i have left it unplugged for 2 weeks with no luck

i have cloned mac addresses with no luck

would you like me to video a demonstration of a hard reset not changing the IP?

Also it wouldn't work from a different address as its mac assigned to your connection

If you left it unplugged for 2 weeks surely whoever was doing whatever to your connection would have got bored?

If you left it off for 2 weeks that means you aren't running any servers on your own connection, so again why are people attacking that IP?

Has a word of truth ever been posted?

Nope but they tend to be 'sticky' meaning that unless you're on a busy UBR you tend to retain the same IP even after rebooting. Being in a small village, i've had the same IP for the last 2 years or so since the local UBR had some upgrades.

With the older Ambit modems, plugging in a different MAC address device (ie: changing router) would sometimes cause a renew of a different IP. But it doesn't seem to work on the newer Cisco modems.

Either way, if Mr Kryptix 733t h4ck0rz over there didn't piss people off he probably would have a stable question.

Edit - In this case xa0s appears not to be telling porkies but I am surprised VM are quite reluctant in activating new modems on request. I would have assumed they'd be all over him in a heartbeat and questioning why he is getting targeted.

Just surprised they allow it as it's the sort of shit that goes down with hack modems.

Ian - There's a few T-mobile and CWH IPs, so tethering or dongles, and the rest are probably leaching off his neighbours. Doesn't show that he has been lying as such.

Russ - Remember reading it before and clearly he acts like a cock on the net. Simplest solution for him would not to be a dick.

this is what it boils down to. Stories of driving dangerously, shagging sainsburys' worker on their lunch whilst having a broken arm, presumably which he received by driving dangerously just make you look eSilly

tbf xa0s is right, it 'won't work' as you don't know the physical addresses assigned to his VM connection to compare with.
Also is it wise to post such information?

No issues in the 7 years we were with them.

Now with Sky, again no problems whatsoever.
