Does sound like mass air flow sensor aswell by the way, if it gets better when it's warm it defo is. Can't put the plug leads on the wrong way as it has a coil pack.

Yes John absolutely correct, some garages are cunts.

Usually won't run Steve, they could have moved the sprocket on the cam and got the timing out but they usually don't start.

I'd say it was like that before, he's just noticed because people assume every problem will go away when it goes in to a garage and then can plead that the garage made it worse.

Is it possible to get the timing slightly out like you can with a belt or is it pretty much right or wrong with chains?

it depends if they used the tool or not to time it, the cam sensor pick up ring also requires timing with the tool on them which could be the cause, if it is only needs the rocker cover off

As said if everyone on car forums actually spent time working in a garage/ bodyshop they would under stand that its not all done exactly to time.

Just because its going to take 4 hours to do a chain doesnt mean it will be done in 4.

A day or possibly 2 is more than resonable.

Same with bodyshop, people are told to bring there car in say monday morning and then they can have it back tuesday but the think if they bring it at 4.30 on the monday they will still get it back tuesday, does my nut in!!

Dont go in all guns blazing or threataning trading standards etc.

Just be nice and polite and they will be more than willing to help but my bet is timing, possibly 180 out.

You'll know if its right when it runs, don't need to strip it down to see whether it has compression or not.

words are beyond me, if the car wasnt finished you dont pick it up. you dont drive across busy junctions with it running like shit and risk everyone in your car's safety.

Don't be such a drama queen, how do you know how many junctions he had to drive through. There will be bigger death traps on the road every day.

Still sounds an odd story though, not exactly straight forward adjusting the timing but if your happy.
