Chris I take it you was using rotary rather than a DA dude? If so thats a completely different kettle of fish and needs a hell of a lot more knowledge and experience like you say

are you polishing to remove swirl marks, restore gloss or to remove scuffs etc?

To correct the paint back to a standard I'm happy with , remove all the swirls I can and make it as glossy as possible ! To be honest with the boot , bumpers , arches and bonnet ill probably get away with just using a finishing polish and a polishing pad to get it as good ad possible because they've been painted and there almost swirl free ! But the doors and rear quarters need abit more attention

unless you do any flatting i would recommend using menzema 2500 and upwards (2500 being power finish2500) the numbers represent cutting grades, on blacks i wouldn't go much lower as there a bloody nightmare to polishback up and sometimes does more harm then good taking too much clearcoat off, work in small areas at a time, don't let the panel get too hot and you can't really go wrong, especially with a DA polisher

Also , sticking up threw the floor in the footwells is what looks like the end of nails ? Probably not the best description but there you go . I haven't looked underneath as yet to see what's on the other side if them but does anyone know what they are ? Can they be ground off flat ? Any help would be appreciated
