I don't mind if it is the pump, knowing they can be dodgy, i already covered this eventuality by buying a 3yr old pump done less than 20k with documented miles etc but it looks like its either a bowden cable or gear position switch. Both of these arent cheap and need gearbox removing.

Currently trying to source a cable and diag equipment to get it read but i think im going to have to get an indy to look at it.

If its more than a £400 fix its new car time I think.

Well it will more than likely just be the same car in better condition, so i will just swap the bits i want over and break this one.

Going to drop it to K&M tonight i think

If you want to sell it just because of a gearbox fault then you obviously wanted to sell it anyway. Just get rid and move on and buy a bloody white one

Edit : although i would just fix it and keep it as it's a great car as it is.

I dont want to sell it, i love it. But im also not a millionaire if its going to cost £1k to fix it will still be tatty afterwards. If i buy one that is less tatty, transfer the bits and break the rest it will be significantly cheaper!

If you say so

I personally though would stick with the car that you know and throw the cash at that to make it a minter rather than take your chance with another one, which could easily have a broken gearbox a month down the line.

Find out what's up with it first, maybe just a simple fix. If i see my mate tomorrow whos a bm breaker il ask him what he thinks it is for another opinion for you

Forgot this was smg, get a manual box fitted to it. It's easily possible and not that expensive to buy one.

I personally am the same, Jambo probably thinks i'm crazy, i think he is crazy Its a funny old world.

I get too attached to cars and always take the opposite attitude, if something breaks on mine i fix it and get excited about having new parts, am always paranoid that any other car i might buy to replace it, will have some expensive problem at some point so may as well get on with the one in hand.

Dont get me wrong fellas, i know my car is good. But as good as it is, its not rare, its not special and its old. It needs a new roof and a respray. If I can swap bits over to one that doesnt need either of the above for a potential profit its a no brainer.
