yes im going for a turbod imp engine, just won a 930cc head on the bay for £80 so that should lower the compression nicely.

also won a pair of new sills for £60 delivered which is good.

having a mess on tonight and going to remove the rest of brake lines and the accelerator pedal and cable, then i will drop it back on the floor, strip the doors i removed down and weigh them to see if its worth getting fibreglass ones. then refit ready for when we make the cage.

the engine really needs taking out but im worried if we weld a cage cage in without it in then it might distort the chassis and not go back in really stuck till the cage is in grrr

good news is i will be able to start banging overtime in come november so it seems so the project should move along quicker

well today i was bored and thought fuck it..

i started the day messing on planning to carry the doors back downstairs and strip them down but couldnt be arsed so i started pottering about..

first up i got my new sills, both the same side grrr never mind can be made to fit with some adjustment. they had surface rust so rubbed the thick off and a quick coat of paint to protect them (never took a pic of this doh)

i then started stripping random bits of the car, i had alread took pedals out ect so did a bit more on the rear, went from this

to this

and some of this

to this

i also ground a load of bodge of the qaurter to see how bad it is underneath, think i need a lower qaurter panel for each side... plenty time for that though

also a quick vid of the apptly named death jack showing how good its seal is
http://s209.photobucket.com/albums/bb271/corsabadboy/Hillman%20Imp/?action=view&current=VIDEO0062.mp4

im now in a position where i need to store some bits, buy an engine stand, strip + lighten + refit the doors and then i need to wait for my mate to make this bastard cage lol

least now i can slowly plod along with an engine rebuild to keep me going, will i be able to rebuild it then store it without seasing and hasstles? never ever went this far with a car and am pretty proud that i got the engine out by myself no real mechanical knowledge, i just thought if bigron can do it then so can i

so after what seems an age of working away and decorating and generally not being arsed i did a bit today..

tidied bits up, sport cam, bigger head ect bidding on dry sump

home made engine stand

mate still hasnt did rollcage and he says probs jan because hes working stupid shifts at the min

but in prep i dug the doors out and did a bit weight saving..

door standardminus odds n sods

then stripped them down

and started chopping

my door release (bolt through)

fuck snapped this

then tidied them up

the results? (minus a poly window and a thin ply or ali door card)

they weighed 22+ each before i started which went off the scale

pretty chuffed.. need to mount them and might weld a few trim clip holes ect up to pass time till the cage is made then its off to the media blasters

also starting the rebuild over christmas most likely... was planning on doing it later but suppose it will entertain me

started like this

and some of this

then turned into this

i think it turned out mint but obviously people on here may have a opinion that differs... we did the best we could with the tools, time and materials we had

also i am soooo pissed

Those welds look lovely, would be having a diagonal though, it's a pain in the ass to form but it'll make it a lot stronger.

will look into that as i have spare tube..

welds are nice yes, but he thinks theyre shit due to my other mates welder having just co2 in and no argon mix

in regards to engine i was going to turbo it but keep getting it in my head a 1.4 k-series would be better

will this work airflow people..?

this is the front of a standard imp which looks imo wank..

this is the scene look..

this is what i like in my head, never seen it done.. (sorry about ms paint skillz)

in real life it would be more suble, smaller louvres and possibly more of them in a neater arrangment. the splitter would be a mk1 golf gti type adapted, sort of like the viva on here. thing is at the moment the car has a rear radiator which i want to move to the front.. will the louvres work to flow air into the bay? also what do you lot think?

i have a mate that will be able to get them punched out and another who can cut and weld my front panel

so after making them pics on paint and recieving no replies i decided to start the front end..`

so first thing was to get some pics outside as it had been locked away for an age..

then i worked a plan of action..

make accesable top mounts
get fuel tank and mount
get new wing
get new louvred sections made and welded in
get/make flared arches
buy and fab mounts for front radiator
buy and mount a small splitter
tidy up loose ends

after this the front will be done and i will then do quarters/sills a side at a time.. then i will figure out whats happening engine wise, make a dash, seat mounts, door cards, then get it blasted, do some bodge, get it painted, then trimmed and assembled

easy eh

anyway so i cut away the inner wings and tidyed them up ready for some strengthening plates welding in (also gives access to top mounts)

added a splash of green to match the side and keep the metal sealed

green will be getting stripped, it will get etch primed then then strenghtening plate welded in

OOOHHHH ANSWER MY AIRFLOW QUESTION
