Swapping the cams in an X25XE to fit to a Vectra GSi.

Slackened it all off, got the pulleys off, cams out and swapped but to change the belt I need the crank pulley off.

Can't get it started because it spins.

Any pointers? Nothing really to hold it by, short of getting it all back together and then there's still no guarantee that it won't crank over and start contacting while it's not timed.

cant remeber what the tool is called but we have something at work we use for getting locking wheel nuts off. you hit it and it shocks a 1/2 socket anti-clockwise. used one to shock a pulley bolt out before

If you can get to the flywheel just getting a mate to hold a screwdriver into the teeth while you try to undo the bottom pully should be fine.

Only real way of doing it without dropping the sump.

If engine is still in the car, put the gearbox in top gear that will stop the engine spinning.
If the engine is out of the car then as above, drop the starter out & use a srewdriver to hold the flywheel.
Or a impact driver.

Engine in gear, wheel off and screw driver into brake caliper to lock it when it spins.

Screwdriver into the flywheel also works.

Woodruff Key? Other than that find access to flywheel via box or starter motor and lock it with a screwdriver or punch.

impact driver

My mate had the same problem with a vectra, had quite a few attempts at it. In the end he borrowed an 1" drive impact gun that we use for lorry wheel nuts and it came off no problem with that, mustve gave it a fair shock

This. Even just putting it into top gear then getting someone to press like hell on the brake pedal will work fine
