Ste the issue with video calling is that on nokias which you are correct in saying had it years ago (Samsung even before them) the problem is it was and is shite. Because it's bandwidth dependant and also means only a VGA camera can be used.

Apple made video calling work. As it being limited to wifi is only a problem now, but soon won't be when wifi is freely available wherever you go.

They took something shit and made it good. It's not perfect, but it's better.

Someones still in a huff Plus i'm not a hater, had an iPhone (add G5, Mac Pro, Macbook to that list of Apple products) and used it for a fair while. Just don't think it's the holy grail people make them out to be which is fair opinion.

Back to topic, Ste is being a bit OTT as it doesn't send the data to anyone (current reports show it doesn't) and it's likely used to increase response on getting a location. Whether it should log the data i'm not sure about as i can't see a reason why you'd need it - MobileMe surely just displays current location rather than previous locations?

Surprised no one commented about iPhone's taking random 'secret' photos though

It's a shame we've got to wait until what, 2013 for 4G to launch over here?

Unsure on the dates exactly, I'd be surprised if it was sooner

Us have it now iirc?

I saw that it also acts as a teleporter too. Just needs 4G to be able to transfer the data fast enough.

Dom: so that's the real reason for the forward facing camera then!

Yup, they've got 4G MiFi's over there too which look pretty smart!

I think Ofcom are selling off the spectrum next year. Something in the news about it a few days ago.

I think Jobs actually said they were late in the game implementing it when the iPhone 4 was launched, but that they implement it best and it took them a while to figure it out. I'm not going to say who's best because quite frankly I couldn't give a shit. But if you have an Android phone you might find that it crashes fairly easily if you open up a load of apps at the same time because it offers 'true' multitasking, which is why this app exists: http://www.androidtapp.com/advanced-task-killer/ The iPhone doesn't offer true multi-tasking, it does task switching where the app is saved in it's current state onto the phones SSD out of memory meaning you can have as many apps 'open' as you like at the same time saving resources and battery. Don't know anything about any other implementations.

Not quite correct. Advanced Task Killer is no different to features offered in Task Manager or Activity Monitor, simply allows you to close processes; it wasn't created to combat anything. As for 'crashes fairly easily', chances are it buggy Apps (which you get on ALL mobile OS's), if you run out of available ram then Android displays a warning.

Edit - regarding multi-tasking, Android is technically 'true' multi-tasking but it's main disadvantage is that it's available ram dependant.

Android memory management has significantly improved, I don't use a task killer and the only time I get force closes is because of my non standard rom.

Yup, it's pretty decent now although i've noticed on lower end Android phones it can still be a bit of an arseache. Can't say i've had issues on a Desire though.

Yeah, and that's why it was jailed in the first place.

I now need an iPhone killer to kill the iPhone before it kills someone else

i dont mind iphones, they feel nice to hold, and are well made with good aesthetics, but it gets very blinkered when people who own them cant admit they fall short of the competition with features when basic tasks can and are performed better from other devices in a lot of cases

it seems bending over backwards to get functionality present on devices across the board to work is seemingly acceptable for apple users, bonkers
