Battery life seems terrible on this iPhone 5 after the S3.

Don't miss the bigger screen like I thought I would, clear improvment in sharpness on the iPhone 5.

Liking being able to use it with one hand again without constantly feeling like it's going to fall out.

OS is a completely different experience, the hardware could be a million times better but I've realised that the OS is the most important factor when you come to use it on a daily basis. Whilst android does everything iOS does and more, iOS is just so much nicer to use in comparison.

It's hard to articulate without sounding like a 'fanboy' and yes I can see the attraction with android.

For me android just feels like your still using a 'phone', it's no different from using every other touchscreen phone, only as times gone on its smoother and has more features but it still feels the same. You still get that sense it's just standard phone software that has no personality and doesn't care about trying to improve your life or make it easier.

Whereas iOS feels completely different, it doesn't feel like you're using a phone at all, it's as though the phone bit is secondary to it being an all round 'personal lifestyle gadget' aimed at improving everyday life by connecting you with people and delivering content, it just happens to be in a device you hold that has the ability to make phone calls.

Don't worry. I've come to the conclusion that everybody that prefers any Apple product over the equivalent competitor is per definition a fanboy.

Just like any news outlet that speaks positively about Apple's products are "highly biased" in their opinion.

John

I was bored of iOS and really wanting some alternative, whatever it was to be great. At first it was the best thing since sliced bread, but that was because it was so 'different', after a few months when different became 'normal' it showed itself as actualy quite a boring, unintuitive, labourous operating system.

I'm speaking in terms of the software on the S3 with touchwiz so happy to admit its not a true comparison of pure android which could be very different again.

I liked the S3 better than the 4S anyway but the Nexus is better again. You seem to genuinely like iOS though so no point going to another phone if it doesn't do what you want.

iOS is the most boring interface in the world. It's stuck in the past. So bland and unimaginative.

If this years crop of iDevices don't come out with a major revamp of the interface I'll be very surprised.

Apple have got themselves in a bit of a pickle, they're currently selling more iOS devices per month than they ever have with the majority of consumers being new to the platform. Changing iOS significantly will alienate a large part of their more recent userbase, but at the same time the long standing users are getting bored and want change.

I can't see an overhaul myself but never say never.

Jobs would have just said he liked it that way and that's how it was staying, he's not there though so they'll bow to pressure and it'll get an overhaul.

If Jobs was still there it definitely wouldn't change, I can't see it changing much myself, Mac OS has been the same for years, Apple's ethos tends to be around making incremental improvements with each itteration.

Tbf OS X has changed a fair amount over the years. Even going between 10.6 and 10.8 you'll see there are a fair few major changes and even a few UI differences.

And i think a overhaul for iOS would be a tad 'strong', although i certainly agree that it needs a bit of a revamp even if it was just a freshen up of the UI scheme as that hasn't really changed over the last 6 years.

Where did I mention 13 years? Fundementally its still an empty screen with a dock of icons across the bottom though.

It would be good if Apple made more of the icons 'live' like if the weather icon changed to match the weather, the clock icon was an actual clock with a ticking hand etc, just to make it a bit more interesting to look at, I doubt they'll do that either given the noise around skeuomorphism.

I'll be very surprised if they do.

I can see them facelifting and adding features but "major revamp" isn't part of what Apple do.

As for "pressure" I'm uncertain there is any, seing how popular iOS devices are.

You said Max OS, but it's now called OS X.

It was just Dom being pedantic. I know, shocking, right?

You didn't, you mentioned Mac OS which technically hasn't existed for 11 years (my bad, they killed OS 9 in 2002; thought it was earlier than that).

It's not even the case of a name change; Mac OS was discontinued in 2002, simple as that. Mac OS X replaced it and the name change to OS X came around Lion/Mountain Lion iirc.

And tbf, it's more shocking an Apple fan not knowing their own products

It isn't part of what a Jobs Apple would do.
