I'd say the last 2 are more what people call HDR these days though, whereas a lot of the others in this thread are actually what HDR was originally designed to achieve?

Steve you are getting some cracking results mate!

What software are you using for the HDR? It has made me think twice about HDR tbh. I have always just dismissed it as they normally look crap!

I might get out with the camera tonight as its a nice clear night!

Also what method do people use?

If I were to go try it I would shoot in raw. I would use the exposure compensation set to -2 then at 0 then at +2. Is that right?

Or do you shoot manually and actually adjust your shutter speed to get the different exposures?

Different exposures is the proper way to do it, could do it but not as good adjusting the RAW exposure compensation.

yep as john said different exposure, at night i use ranges -3 0 and +4 in daylight less extremes -2 to +2 or 3

you can edit the raw files though not as effectively though

What about trying more pictures 1 stop apart Steve?

I think your highlights look blown out because you are doing +4.

Good pics but not very hdr.

The dark stuff is just dark (not your pictures, in general) and everything else is fairly well lit.

it was actually quite dark thats the good thing about hdr can make nice pics from difficult situations, not being able to tell is a good thing, il upload the steps if you like youl see how you wouldnt get those images from one individual exposure

That looks more 'HDR', I like that you can see the stars in that one better than the red sky.

The first set are still good, I don't know what the lighting was like to the eye obviously.
