How right was I - No multi-tasking for 3G or lower.

Also multitasking..well its not really proper multitasking, mostly just app switching has been enhanced but then it all relies on developers coding thier app. Wonder how long tomtom will take to update thier app

They'll probably have it ready for when the OS is released if they're smart.

I bet they won't. By doing it they give all those people on 18/24 month contracts a reason to move to the 4th Gen device. Clever marketing again.

Not really, because then the competitor will get in there before and who's going to spend £40-50 on an app only to buy TomTom when they've changed it? Also, the point in the recent conference was to release the latest SDK so that app designers could build stuff for it. With so much money available out there you'd be an idiot not to start work as soon as you could.

^^indeed.
And TomTom really need to be on the ball and need to step things up, google/nokia offering free turn by turn instructions.

IMO, tomtom asking £8 a month for traffic reports after spending £70 on an app is unbelieveable.

I think they have alot to compete with.

That being said, im happy with my up to date (free) TomTom app
(I would just like the hd traffic)

They charge for traffic on actual TomToms too don't they? If you're planning ahead, you can get the traffic info for free on Google Maps

sorry mate - just ready back the comments - in my head i read you saying "by release they will add support to the 3g" not sure how i read it that way lol

I can see a lot of apps updated ready to go as soon as the OS is released.

TomTom charge for traffic on thier normal TomToms and the iPhone one.

Interested to see when Google release thier one.

I'd be perfectly happy if I could use Google maps and have it track along the route that I'm taking. I have TomTom set in map overview mode as the other mode does my head in!

So glad I didn't buy a $400 license a few days ago

The new SDK suggests camera with flash:

http://thenextweb.com/mobile/2010/04/09/iphone-4g-feature-camera-flash/?awesm=tnw.to_15vX5&utm_medium=tnw.to-twitter&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_content=twitter-publisher-main

It's about time they improved the camera, there are so many reasons to have a good camera on your iPhone (twitter, facebook, foursquare, google maps e.t.c...)

Got the new 4.0 today from a dev at work. Initially it's good, multitAsking needs improving, folders is good as takes less space on main screen. One bit of confusion is the wallpaper, once u choose an image, u can't seem to be able to change it again.

On similar news vodafone uk are stocking the ipad soon.

I was wondering how it worked also. I thought it might be like the Amazon Kindle which as far as I know isn't tied to just one provider in the same way as a phone. But it seems like the 3G ones might be line a scaled up iPhone...

It might be like those HSDPA things Vodafone sell, the don't have a SIM card do the? I've got one built into my laptop and as far as I can tell there's nowhere for a SIM.

It takes a sim, but can't make calls.

Anything that connects to the uk mobile networks (and afaik everywhere else) needs a sim, whether it be user accessible or not.

Kindle is also tied to a provider afaik, just has roaming agreements as with a phone.

Yup the iPad uses a micro-sim, which meant that a lot of operators have had to get cards specially manufactured hence some of the delays, apparently a standard sim card was too big
