Lamest update EVAR
Bought some metal, here is some of it, massive lights go on the top.
Patio door steps are bent, need framing.
Rear fold out steps are made, need galvanising and skinning with skirt.
Rear end still needs work, metal is in stock for that now.

so it'll be a floodlight at the top of them poles with a cable running down and some kind of plug and socket arrangement at the bottom?

Probably going to have the floodlight removable so that can go inside the van and the pole underneath down the chassis but yeah that is the plan.
Need weatherproof connections as well for it all.

ah just noticed you want low voltage floods. i can't help there but i can get you some ip67 plugs and sockets easy enough.

That would be good, need panel mount for the base of the pole, probably mounted in the alu sheet and something inline for the top. Let me know what you have/how much.

for the panel mount conectors and plugs i was thinking of something like this:

the only problem there would be that you would get people trying to plug 110v equipment into your sockets or plugging your lights into a 110v supply. either way it's a problem. can you link me to any connectors you may have seen to give me a better idea of what you want?

metal halide for teh win. Bright white light, and i think B&Q are doing them for 40quid. Not sure on power consumption tho.

Halogen lights are OK but we don't really have mains unless we run the generator. Plus its noisy.
Would rather run low voltage lights off the battery and the generator the next day to recharge. Plus charging costs us about 500 watts. Lights are that each and you would need a few of them. Incandescent is just not particularly efficient.

We've got a picture in work of a Eurofighter that had a lightning strike on the stbd strake and it has blown it to pieces.

Ring spot lights from Halfords with HID conversion are looking most economical for power:lumens at the minute.
