I plugged my charger into my laptop like I normally do before I switch it on, got to the main screen and its saying plugged in not charging and has stayed at 98% for over 30 minutes now, after a quick scout about on google nothing specific has come up mainly vista bios and quite common can anyone help with this ie a simple fix or is it a warranty jobby?

Its a Acer Aspire 5735z about 7/8 weeks old also I don't have a second battery to test.

First thing i'd do is de-charge the battery totally. i.e use it until it on its battery until it turns off.

Then, re-charge it and see what happens.

Ok will do.

I do normally fully de-charge the battery unless I know i'm going to be using the computer for a while.

Take the battery out when you are using it plugged into the mains. Just having the battery connected when going mobile means the battery lasts longer.
