This has probably been asked a thousand times on here but I haven't stumped up £12.50 so can't search for threads so meh.

Currently with SKY and have:

Standard Box
3 of those Variety packs
Sky Sports package
Base BB
Free Evening and weekend calls including £0 line rental.

All for £37.50 pm.

When I move I want HD so have been offered the above package plus a free HD box with a £30 installation charge (I could probably push for this to be waivered). Then there would be the £9.75 HD package charge per month. So in total £47.25 per month.

Just tried to price up a similar package on VM and it seems a lot more.

Anyway my question is: Who provides the better HD service...SKY or VM?

Sky by a country mile, something like 40 vs 8 HD channels.

However VMs upscaling of normal SD material is much better and the extra tuner is a godsend especially if you have kids and don't get time to watch fuck all until they are in bed.

Currently Sky offer more HD channels although VM are adding a load more towards the end of the year. Although with VM HD the box has an extra tuner, so record 2 channels whilst watching a third etc Plus you have VOD with VM. Although you have a better interface/menu system with Sky.

Have a look >HERE<

I went for Sky simply because if I wanted to add the Sports onto VM it was something rediculous (sp?) like £35 extra a month

Ideally I would like VM Broadband and SKY TV and phone but its looking like the three service package I mentioned above by SKY is the cheapest.

Will be arranging for them to install SKY HD at my new house the day after I move in.

Thats the old Setanta package and £10 or so PM on SKY...for the 2 or 3 games a season I would watch I would sooner save the £120 (yearly) and go the pub.

It's £9 a month if you've got the sports package or £12 if you haven't.
I'm tempted just for the UFC but need to try and talk the mrs round

Don't agree at all. The fact there is no back channel button, and you can't scroll through the mini guide without changing channels is a ballache.

Haven't had Sky for a couple of years, but you could always scroll through the mini guide without changing channels.

I'm also not bothered if the SKY interface takes me 0.5 seconds longer to find a channel. Its the content thats most important.

Besides I have had sky for years now so know how to naviagte the menus quickly.

I know what you mean CorSRi, you mean have a small TV picture in the corner and a smaller but still complete TV guide on the screen at the same time, not just that shitty box at the bottom going through each channel 1 by 1

That's being changed in the update EPG, has a small live tv box in the top corner then a 6 channel at a time, 2 hour view, or something similar

Indeed, Sky are currently upgrading their HD EPG.

Im not sure what the VM EPG is like, but it used to be pish slow which put alot of people off.

The virgin epg is still as bad as it's always been, I get fed up and give the control to somebody else after 2 minutes whenever i'm near one.
