I've still got this X18XE1 block with a fudged bottom end and a X16XE with a duff top end (snapped cambelt) sat in my workshop..

I'm thinking maybe a hybrid of the two would create a 1659cc low c/r (sub 9:1) build perfect for a turbo

X18XE1
bore: 80.5
Stroke: 88.2

X16XE
bore 79.0
stroke 81.5

I'm not sure on the deck heights and combusion chamber size so I can't work out an accurate C/R

Yup! Its the same size as the 1.6 but all the oil galleries are different so I'd have to use the 1.8 head.

so is it a 1.8 head on the 1.6 block?
wouldnt that be a similar c/r and capacity?
or am i missing something?
oh what about the fire ring on the headgasket as if the bores smaller on the 1.6 block it wont line up with the larger 1.8 head combustion chamber so you would have the headgasket sticking into the combustion chamber.
or has this all done before?

1.8 Pistons
1.6 Crank
1.6 Rods
1.6 Oil Pump
1.6 Sump

Got pay for bore honing and some pistons so its going to get pricey

eugh fook that then, tbh the 1.8 pistons shouldnt come to less than £400 and honing is unlikely to set you back a ton, so meh you could end up spending a hefty bag of sand on it for it to not work which would be shit, plus are you going to be able to run the 1.6 crank if youre increasing volumetric efficiency

I'll probably get the block honed, use the original shells as they are still good and source some second hand Z18XE pistons
