basically i killed my old laptop, i kept the HDD which works 100% fine.

However when i put it in a new laptop (well an old one minus the hdd) it says it needs to activate the windows, and asks for the windows key...i dont have it

is there any way of formatting this drive or bypassing this so i can use it?

iv tried the automated microsoft thing and that doesnt work either

Run this program and it'll tell you your product key

If it's legit just activate it.

Buy one of these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5-USB-Laptop-SATA-Hard-Drive-Caddy-HD-Enclosure-Case_W0QQitemZ310115628632QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Collectables_HardDriveEnclosures_RL?hash=item310115628632&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkpa

Throw the drive in it. Plug into PC or laptop use the tool or similar to look at the secondary drive's registry.

Might be able to use the Hive command in regedit:

Load the hive.

To load Local_machine hive,
Open regedit > Click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
File > Load Hive > Browse to the file
Give it a name > then do what yoy want to do with it
Click on the loaded hive > File > Unload Hive

To load a Users hive,

Open regedit > Click "HKEY_USERS"
File > Load Hive > Browse to the file
Give it a name > then do what yoy want to do with it
Click on the loaded hive > File > Unload Hive
