I've got one with A&L, this is the one i use for large buys (like TV's etc) Other then that i dont use it.

I've also got a Nationwide Flex Credit Card. I take this on holidays with me because i can use it for payments over the counter without getting any charges.

Credit cards are all the same if you pay the balance on time IMO

My GF hadnt had a CC before, and couldnt get anything except the Capital One card for new people to credit cards. It had a stupid APR of like 38% but its a way of her getting some credit history, she put 4 months worth of purchases on it but paid it off at the end of every month, with a view to upgrading soon to a cashback card. I want a cashback card, but I dont think they will give me one as a student

If you haven't had anything on credit before (including a phone contract) you'll suffer with getting a large credit limit Although you are a Uni student.

For what you're doing, you essentially need the biggest 0% purchases period you can get.

pow, with the cashback card you described, don't you have to pay the balance off full every month to benefit?

It'll be useless for Gregg and for his main purchase, he won't gain anything as he won't be paying the balance off full any month?!

You wont have a credit rating then! Dont expect big limits if you've no previous credit, something like £300 - £500 topps
Try your bank for a 1st credit card, go in and see them not over phone or net. Usually very helpful

It will help. And the fact you're a full time Uni student will also help. With household income, estimate that of everyone who lives there - that will help. Don't bank on getting a big enough credit rating to pay for your insurance. You'll have enough for the deposit, may be.

Halifax or Bank of Scotland have 0% on purchases. That was my first CC.

This would be ideal

You have pretty much the same credit as me before I took a loan out, and I got a pretty good rate.

Don't be mistake into thinking it's a 'good' credit rating, you haven't really done much to make it good, it's more in the middle, you have to prove yourself.

I have one for 12k with Lloyds TSB and one for 7k with the Halifax. I also have a 2k overdraft.

I never run up debt more than 1k though, that would just be silly on my wages

Pay your bills on time lads and the bank will give you anything! It's silly the amount of money i have readily available..
