I took near enough the whole lot.. And I seperated out the ECU (body side) loom from the rest of it.. I also move the fuel pump relay further away from the ECU so it was up in the bulk head (but thats not really important)..

Yeah something like 46kg on the engine and another 12kg on the gearbox.

if you base it purely on power to weight there is a big difference. considering the 1800 still is about 10lb/ft down the xe's 145 ish as std. maybe your engine has less miles, maybe the conversion was done better than most cobbled together xe's.

your right though, its all about feeling the difference as could sit here for a fair bit using maths and get nowhere. all im thinking is the cost of doing such an engine conversion compared to an xe which has more torque and power already. its an interesting one the 1800 16v, i will give you that.

The XE might be up on power but it all depends on where that peak power is reached in the rev-range, where the peak torque is, how the gearing is effects that and in turn that is all effected by the weight of the car and how much traction it has etc. etc.

People spend too much time looking at the peak figures.

The torque delivery from the XE1 is almost from idle which means you arent reving the tits off it and dumping the clutch to get up into the peak torque rev-band and when it comes to a standing start its ALL ABOUT the torque BHP just comes into play when you are trying to over-come drag.

Theres also 'REAL WORLD' A to B performance, clearly having a substantially lighter engine means a better weight distribution which equates to better handling and thus more speed in the corners..

If you're going to tune it wouldnt it be best to keep the box?

And barter is offering any 1.8 owners a race
