click on start then run

type in cmd, hit enter

then type ipconfig /flushdns, hit enter

another way is to go into network connections and right click on either the wireless or local area connection (depending how your connecting) icons and click repair. This will flush the cache also.

ive tried the repair thing and thats when i get the original message saying windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Clearing the DNS cache



whats it mean?

could restart and try the flush command again.

DNS is how the computer converts web website addresses/computer names into IP addresses. As you surf around it builds up a table of web site names to IP's. If one of the records becomes out of date you may get issues communicating to that website or computer hence the need to flush the cache. This makes the computer go out and find the correct path to that website again.

There's a built in administrator account

Can you log out? If so username is administrator and p/w is normally nothing just hit enter.

Try flushing it in that account

If the browser connects to the website albeit slowly then its unlikely to be a dns issue more link speed

what exactly is the problem your having? How are you connecting to the internet? It might not even be DNS cache on your machine but on the router if your using one. If your on a router you could try resetting your router.

My router keeps on crashing I am connected via wireless connection
how do you reset? do you just mean turn off and on?
other problems i have are webpages taking an age to load and the whole internet experience generally being pants
i came across the cache issue when i first tried to repair my wireless connection!

Yeah just unplug it and plug it back in. Is the router hot? i had an old one get very hot and would slow down so i binned it and got a netgear. If your feeling dangerous you could try upgrading the firmware if you can get hold of a newer version.

its a bt homehub and noone else has the problems i do other than obviously the router crashing and its a belkin wireless card ive got

Load Windows in Safe Mode and then you'll see the Administrator account. Login and clear the DNS using that account. Worth a punt...

Connect via an eathernet cable and see if it works...if it does then its not the laptop and may be the wireless card

Safemode, press F8 a couple of times when it shows Windows XP loading.

Theres an "Administrator" account in there Use that to flush it, using the command up there
