had the car on a rolling road and the bhp is down by about 15/20 to what it should be apparently
works out as the nova only pulls aswell as my mates mk2 gte astra with a standard as hell redtop.
The enigne in the nova has a powercap, 2 inch system im pretty sure, carbon shelled induction kit etc.
What could be making it run slow? The guys were only a small garage and im not sure they knew what was up either
looked at my air mass meter and isa bit gunked up - going to buy a new one.
But really if its running under 150bhp with a powercap and extras somethings up ey

powercap, exhaust and a filter are going to give an absolute minimum in BHP increase.

check to make sure the exhuast system is 2' minimum, if it smaller, it will restrict like hell causing it to pull poorly higher up the revs. ideally, a 2.25' system would be nice, but they were 2' std in astras and cavaliers, so make sure it is that from the downpipe back.
give it a full service, rotar arm, dizzy cap, plugs, leads, cts, oil filter, fuel filter etc and maybe check the ecu for fault codes just incase

Just what i was thinking. You don't want to start modding the engine if it's not working propperly.

I dont really agree with that.
XE's last very well, ive rarely seen a XE be down on standard power, unless it was a sick engine.

So you are going to contadict what is common knowledge and fact and say that as an XE gets old it wont loose power. Good luck there pal.

lol even i reckon they lose 5/6 bhp easy over the years.
Say theyre 150-152 new, mine without anything should be like 145. Powercap etc etc and exhaust should have brought it to like 153/154

id say with a power cap and exhaust you would be seeing 175-180

well the exhaust has the standard manifold so not much from there.
Powercaps only adding like 9 at the most!

well in fairness you dont use a dyno to test cars on a daily basis so wether you agree or not I am right when I say that engines lose power with age.

agreed, same has been seen on ours. Although muppet is right, with the right subtle mods you can see enough power to over come gravity itself.

How do you know?
Ok, i dont but it got you thinking about assuming things didn't it?
Indeed it'll loose power, its just some engines seem to loose more over the years than others.
