compressor stall can cause wastegate chatter, for the very reasons you point out.

close off the dv, and the actuator wont able to cope with the pressure being forced back through the turbo

[Edited on 30-08-2007 by Steve]

its not the pressure that goes out steve, understand.
its the exhaust gases taking the easy way out. charge pressure aint gona go through the turbine wheel. how do you think it gets there? back to the turbo through the compressor oil seal through the shaft housing through the turbine oil seal and then forces itself out the gate? er no

i have. and this cant happen. how do you think charge escapes through the wastegate /penny valve when it dosnt have anything to do with the turbine side of the blower.

lol. not arguing with you steve. i dont like to argue on here really but think about it and try to understand what ime saying. we are agreed that when the throtle snaps shut the boost will take a u turn without a bov yes?
after that trace back the route it has taken...
cant get to the turbine housing of the turbo can it?
this is what ime saying.
i no it makes that chattering noise but this isnt the same gasses/pressure which escape through the bov. its a different concept and ile leave it at that.
ps sorry

Look, you keep banging on about charge pressure being forced out the wastegate.. THIS IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE!!!

At no point is charge pressure ever on the exhaust / turbine side of the turbo therefore charge pressure cannot be released or forced back through the wastegate. The only thing that ever goes through the wastegate is exhaust gas..

Do i need to draw a picture!?!

im only joking yes i was wrong about OE cars having external wastegates, i just was trying to make the point that closing off the dump valve is not a good thing generally just for a noise
