Ok then but the actual "chattering" noise gets louder the closer the air filter is to the turbo. Now I know thats right. Or not?

So best/safest/most realiable set up is with a dump valve and wastegate?

just a dump valve the turbo will already have a wastegate.

my advice would be to run a recirc valve but then you get no noise, especially on a vag engine

The chattering does come from the airfilter doesn't it. When a car doesn't have a dumpvalve?

the chattering on most road cars with otu screamer pipes etc is commonly called wastegate chatter, its not, as most have internal wastegates, usally it is when you let of the throttle and there is mpre pressure on the commpressor side than there is on the exhaust side, the pressure then is forced back through the compressor (turbo stall, compressor is cutting up there air so the speak, hence the noise), and back out through the filter

either way the air comes out, its still bad for the turbo and hinders its performance, thats the main point here

Maybe only New-ish turbo'd cars. As I believed Escort and Fiesta turbo's didnt. But my mates 1997 Starlet had a Recirc valve. i think

Nah, I dont know of any standard road cars that have an external wastegate out of the box! Most have built in wastegate and actuator cos there is no need for an external wastegate until boost gets high (external wastegate manages high boost pressures better)

As OE cars have internal wastegates because they are legal

external ones dont dump the gas back into the manifold, and that is illegal

most of my readings up on turbos have been about larger aftermarket turbos which is why i assumed oe turbos were setup in a similar way.

you still need to avoid turbo stall either way
