I recently got some 6x9's in my parcel shelf... (no bashing pls, it sounds great, just what I needed, aswell as my boot space) but they're out in the open.
I live in a quiet estate on a private drive, but when im out and about im Birmingham and nearby cities I never thought about the chances of having my stuff stolen, until I read the "ICE Security" thread. (reading it prompted me to go and remove my satnav, head unit and cds from the glove box! )
The speakers are mountedon the standard shelf, could I just get some acoustic cloth and stretch it over the top of the shelf and staple underneath? Is there a cheap and effective way to do this without having to buy a stupidly overpriced stealth shelf?
cheers!

i apologise for adding to your paranoia
exactly what you said though...get some acoustic cloth...or even just a thin cloth (texture like tight material) and just stretch it over the shelf. Staple it to the underside or something. Whenever anyone looks in it'll just look flat

Should I remove the grills from the speakers and then stretch it over? will the grills form a bump in the stretched cloth?
Will it sag in the middle over time? is there anything I can do to get a long-lasting effect?

If you stretch it tight enough then i shouldn't sag.
I think it'd be trial and error, and just see whether or not when you stretch...whatever...over the shelf if the speaker grills come through or not.
Its basically what a stealth shelf is

Before i had a stealth shelf i had my speakers on show and parked in liverpool on a street (looks dodgy but has cctv apparently).. I used my black rear car mats to cover them at night and unless you looked closely you couldnt tell!
Just make an acoustic shelf.. peice of mdf with holes for speakers and then some thin mesh to stop the cloth that you cover the holes from dipping! Its what im going to do when i get some more 6x9's or i might buy another stealth shelf

I'll try this when I get back from my break.
Where can I get MDF from? and mesh for that matter? Local places or is there a well known shop that'll do this?
Focus?

I live on an ex-council estate now owned by a housing company. My spakers are on show but have never had problems and anyone I know who has them ON show hasn't either. I think people shouldn't worry too much TBH
